Energy with Stores-Teaching it with Confidence

Teaching Energy with the 'old mode'l with types and transformations was fun and it was easy. There were no difficult concepts and there were some cool practicals you could do.

Unfortunately the old model was very flawed and has been replaced in the UK curriculum with Stores, Transfers and Pathways. Few physicists would argue that it is not a better model, but it is certainly a model that is much harder to teach as a non-specialist.

The language of the old model was compatible with everyday discussions about energy. Chemical energy in a battery isn't transformed into electrical energy in wires, but most people would be happier with that explanation than the chemical store is emptying through the pathway of electrical working!

What it all means and how to put it across to your students are covered in this course for the first time available online delivered by Neil Atkin. This is a two way course and we will guide you and support you through it answering your (or your students( questions

The free course gives the oversight of what the changes are from energy types to stores. There will be a full course available soon.

I will be putting a large range of courses on this site so please bookmark it or follow me on @natkin on twitter

Teaching Forces with Confidence (Coming Soon)

Forces underpin most other big concepts in physics. Energy is primarily about forces moving through distances , electricity is about forces acting on charged particles. However forces are often misunderstood and has possibly the biggest number of misconceptions.

If you do not have a solid grasp of forces physics will not make much sense

Teaching Electricity with Confidence (Coming Soon)

Electrical circuits are a mystery to many people. This course takes you back to the fundamentals to make sense. We will explore all aspects of electrical circuits, domestic electricity and how forces and energy are linked to the concepts. You will have a new range of teaching tools and a greater depth of understanding.

Primary Physics with confidence (Coming Soon)

All secondary teachers of physics have to try and unravel the misconceptions that students have picked up about topics in physics. Good intentions not underpinned with knowledge are often the root cause. This course takes you back to the basics, with lots of ideas and examples as well as a clarity of explanations in order to demystify physics

Energy Animations

The course has a series of animations with questions that you can download and use in your classroom.

These animations take you step by step through building up your and your students knowledge and confidence.

This is not about teaching energy, it is about understanding how forces, electricity and energy transfers concepts overlap and how when you see the interconnections
